Residential Flagpoles – There are a number of options available for residential flagpoles including multi-section aluminum poles and telescoping flagpoles, one-piece tapered fiberglass or aluminum flagpoles. Typical heights for residential flagpoles range from 12’ to 25’.

Commercial Flagpoles – Commercial grade flagpoles are available with an external halyard setup where the ropes are outside the pole or an internal halyard setup where the ropes are concealed within the pole. External and internal halyard poles are available from 20’ all the way up to 80’ in height. Anything above 80’ in height is only available with the internal halyard setup.

The choice for which flagpole you want comes down to a few simple questions:

  • What is your budget?
  • How much of a presence do you want this pole to have in your yard or business?
  • What type of finish would you like the pole to have?
  • Weather conditions in your area can factor in on your choice as well.

Fiberglass

Fiberglass is a long lasting and maintenance free material available in white, bronze or black. It’s noncorrosive, rust proof and offers superior strength and durability. Fiberglass flagpoles can stand up to high winds and other weather conditions without fear of damage, yet are significantly lighter than steel or aluminum. Since fiberglass absorbs sound, the noisy clanging of snaps on metal is not a problem and because fiberglass is non-conductive, grounding is not required unless wire halyards are used.

Standard accessories include: fiberglass ground sleeve, polyester halyard, nylon clips, cleat, truck, gold aluminum ball, and fiberglass flash collar (must be special ordered for 15’ pole).

Aluminum

There are two sectional, non-tapered, ground set flagpoles available as well as a telescoping flagpole that doesn’t require a rope and pulley therefore eliminating tangles, knots and clanging of ropes against the pole. Cone tapered ground set aluminum flagpoles are precision fabricated from new, 6063-T6 tubing utilizing the industry’s most sophisticated state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and are available in a standard Satin finish or with a variety of anodized finishes such as bronze and black. These poles are maintenance free and are designed to withstand high winds. The Special Budget Series as well as The Economy Extra Series of tapered poles are available for residential applications.

Nautical

Nautical flagpoles are meant to represent the sailing vessels from our maritime heritage. They are ideally suited for marinas and coastal areas associated with marine activities. Nautical flagpoles may have either a yardarm only or a yardarm and gaff. The yardarm is the horizontal spar used to support and spread a square sail. The gaff is the spar rising aft from the mast to support the head of a quadrilateral fore-and-aft sail. Nautical flagpoles are equipped with multiple halyards enabling you to fly a number of different flags. The gaff is considered the position of honor and the national flag of the host country is flown from there.

Most flag installations are for continuous outdoor use. There are two main types of material, each for different conditions:

  • Nylon flags - offer the highest durability and, due to its lighter weight, is the most attractive when flying. With embroidered stars and sewn stripes (appliquéd stars on 10’ x 15’ size or larger), these nylon flags offer lustrous beauty, superior wear plus excellent fly ability even in the slightest breeze.
  • Polyester flags - slightly more expensive, 2-ply poly flag is also heavier. Their best use is for larger sizes and they are recognized as the most durable of all fabrics. Resists wear to wind, dirt and moisture and is ideal for industrial and institutional applications.

Proper flag size is based upon the height of the flagpole and number of flags going on that pole. Here is a helpful chart to help you determine the flag size you need (for multiple flags on the same pole, the flags below the top flag are one size smaller).

*The width of a standard-sized flag should be ¼ the height of the flagpole.
