Client University of Vermont Medical Center

The University of Vermont Medical Center is a large, multi building academic medical campus where clear orientation and consistent communication are essential to daily operations. As the campus evolved, a new wayfinding strategy was developed to improve navigation across buildings, departments, and vertical circulation while maintaining clarity within a highly active healthcare environment.

Bailey Sign fabricated and installed a comprehensive identity and wayfinding signage system to support this campus wide initiative. The scope included primary identity signage, interior wayfinding, directories, overhead directional signage, elevator bank signage, dimensional lettering, and an integrated graphics package. Each element was produced as part of a unified system, ensuring consistency in hierarchy, typography, and visual language across multiple buildings and circulation zones.

Interior wayfinding and overhead signs were positioned to guide patients, visitors, and staff through long corridors, decision points, and vertical transitions with minimal confusion. Elevator bank signage and directories play a critical role in orienting users within complex cores, clearly communicating destinations while reducing reliance on staff for directions. Dimensional letters were fabricated to reinforce identity and provide clear landmarks throughout the campus.

Fabrication and installation required precision and coordination to maintain alignment and consistency across varied architectural conditions and building phases. Materials and finishes were selected for durability, cleanliness, and long term performance in a healthcare setting. The resulting signage and graphics system supports intuitive movement, reinforces institutional identity, and helps the campus function as a cohesive and navigable environment.
