MaineGeneral’s facilities serve a wide range of patients, visitors, and staff each day, making clarity and ease of navigation essential. The signage for this project was developed to support movement across the campus while maintaining a calm and composed presence appropriate for a healthcare environment.
Bailey Sign delivered a coordinated signage system that includes exterior identification, site directional signage, interior wayfinding, and a significant donor recognition element. Each component was designed as part of a unified visual language, balancing visibility with restraint so information is available when needed without overwhelming the space. Careful attention was given to hierarchy, placement, and scale to ensure navigation feels intuitive from arrival through destination.
A key feature of the project is a large custom donor recognition display spanning the primary interior hallway. The installation was constructed using oversized backlit glass panels designed to evoke the movement of flowing water and waterfalls. This element introduces a sense of calm and continuity while acknowledging donor contributions in a way that feels architectural rather than commemorative.
Material selection and fabrication details were informed by the demands of a medical setting, with an emphasis on durability, cleanliness, and long term performance. Exterior signage establishes clear points of arrival and reinforces institutional identity, while interior elements guide patients and visitors through complex layouts with clarity and confidence.
Throughout the project, the focus was not on the signage itself, but on the experience it supports. The resulting system integrates naturally with the architecture and contributes to an environment that feels organized, accessible, and thoughtfully considered.
